Dougherty is located in the north portion of Dublin, California. In 1852, including a two-story adobe house, James Witt Dougherty bought the land here. A community grew up around the adobe and was first named Amador’s and Amador Valley after Rancho San Ramon (Amadororiginal )’s owner, Jose Maria Amador. In 1860, the post office arrived and renamed the site as Dougherty Station.  The zip code of Dougherty is 94598, and the main streets of the neighborhood are Dougherty Road, Dublin Boulevard and Amador Valley Road.

Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA) is a U.S. Army facility located in Dublin, California that is now a semi-active U.S. mobilization and training center, generally referred to as Camp Parks. Staff of the Army Reserve to be used in the event of war or natural disaster. Parks has a primary mission to practice command, instruction, defense, administration, service and supply functions for all designated or attached troop groups, military operations and other governmental agencies.

For more than 11,000 Army Reserve Soldiers in the San Francisco Bay Area, Parks RFTA is the only local training facility where a wide range of training facilities are open. Throughout the year, reserve units permanently stationed at RFTA Parks perform weekend inactive duty training, and reserve component units return to the base for their annual two-week training.

Dougherty Hills Open Space Trail is located near Dublin, California, a 2.2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail that provides scenic views and is graded as moderate. For hiking, biking, trail running, and nature trips, the trail is mostly used.

This trail begins with a steep climb up the Dougherty Hills Open Space hills. On your left, you pass a water tank and climb higher up the hills. You can see Mount Diablo straight ahead. You get a clear view of Dublin from the left and right. The descent to Stagecoach Road is just as steep and a little bit longer as the initial climb.

Visit a 10-acre park with historic buildings, lawns, a historic cemetery, and picnic areas at the Dublin Heritage Park and Museums. During daylight hours, the park is open to the public. On location, there are two museums: Murray Schoolhouse, which houses a permanent display on the history of Dublin; and Kolb House, a historic museum-house. The Old St. Raymond Church, the Kolb Sunday School Barn, and the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery are also other properties on the property.

When the people of the community were looking for more family-oriented activities, Dublin Iceland was established in 1975. It was started by the East Bay Iceland Corporation and to this day, offers its patrons several public sessions and skating classes. For visitors of all ages and abilities, it’s a great activity; younger ones love to participate in skating school. With its array of figure skating classes, broomball games, or competitive ice hockey games, you can build your skills. Dublin Iceland’s Camp Freeze and Junior Camp Freeze is a recreational camp available to children between the ages of five and eleven every summer; they will learn basics, simple choreography, play games, and even learn about the workings of a Zamboni Ice Resurfacing machine during their time at the camp.

You get the exercise you need at ROCKIN ‘JUMP and lots of laughs along the way. Back in 2010, it was the vision of two families and it quickly became one of the most popular recreation and fitness destinations in America. The Rockin’ Jump Dublin location is open daily and provides all kinds of special activities.

In Dublin, California, Old St. Raymond’s Church is a historic church. On April 12, 2006, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Established in 1859 and consecrated in 1860, it was the oldest active Catholic church in the counties of Alameda and Contra Costa.

John Knox Presbyterian Church is a family-oriented church which has just celebrated its 55th anniversary! We are a congregation of friends that welcomes new faces. Biblically-based, our Sunday service, at 9:30 a.m., features both. Music that is traditional and modern. Sunday school for kids and teenagers is here. For little children, with nursery care. We have a fellowship hour after worship that includes coffee, juice and a time to interact and interact with others.

Parks, Schools & Other Points of Interest in Ygnacio Valley

Dougherty is also home to some amazing parks, schools, public libraries and schools for its citizens to enjoy.  These facilities are all world-class, beautifully maintained and clean so residents of surrounding communities often visit to enjoy them.  Here’s a short list all located in Dougherty:

On the soft grass of this fenced, off-leash dog park, which includes a separate small dog field, drinking fountains, benches, and agility equipment, there is plenty of space to run. “Dog of Dublin”, an art installation piece by Berkeley-based Tellart Studios and lead artist Emily Leighton, was installed in 2020. ‘Dogs of Dublin’ is a collection of brightly colored dog silhouettes, following an ombre pattern inspired by the colors seen over the surrounding hills of the park at dusk. On Amador Valley Blvd, 80 silhouettes line almost 500 feet of fence line. These silhouettes were made and are replicas of neighborhood dogs from a pet photo shoot held at the dog park. The park previously included an art installation by the artist Michele Alcantara of Salinas named “Animal Sequence.” This piece was decommissioned in 2017.

Off Dublin Boulevard and Civic Plaza, the Dublin Sports Grounds are situated. Located in the center of the city, the park includes 22.8 acres of land and features, in addition to its many picnic and children’s play areas, one lighted baseball diamond, two lighted softball diamonds and two lighted soccer fields.

At 11600 Shannon Ave., near San Ramon Road, this 10-acre community park is located. A natural creek meanders its way through the park and is an excellent place for nature exploration. There is one picnic area at Shannon Park that is available for reservation. The picnic area has 48 seats and four BBQs. By completing the Group Picnic Area Application, or online, reservations can be made. At the park, no inflatable jump houses or other equipment is permitted. Note: On a leash, dogs are allowed.

Dublin High School is known for its flagship programs, including the Engineering Academy, which prepares students to excel in a post-secondary engineering program; the Biomedical Academy, which prepares students for post-secondary biomedical science education; and the Culinary Academy, which prepares students for post-secondary culinary arts education.
